Kohoin Temple, a temple of the Tenryuji School of Rinzai Zen Buddhism, was built on the site of the former residence of Tesshu Yamaoka, a shogunate vassal in the closing days of the Tokugawa shogunate. The Tesshu Zen Association provides a place for training similar to a professional monastery for working people who live busy lives in the city.
