Announcement for the September “Zen Tea Gathering”
If you’ve ever wanted to try matcha at a tea ceremony but hesitated because you didn’t know the proper etiquette, we’ll explain the basics in the traditional tatami room at Kobo-in Temple in Nakano Ward, Tokyo—just a short distance from Shinjuku. At Kobo-in, we offer tea ceremony lessons as part of our Zen practice. Through a short 10-minute zazen meditation and the tea ceremony etiquette, you’ll experience the importance of focusing on each and every moment of “now.”
After that, please watch a demonstration of the actual thin tea ceremony and enjoy the main sweet and thin tea.

At Kōho-in, a temple of the Tenryū-ji branch of the Rinzai school located in Nakano Ward, Tokyo, near Shinjuku, we hold a 15-minute zazen session and a 30-minute Dharma talk led by the head priest once a month on Sunday mornings in the temple’s formal tea room. During the tea gathering that follows, the head priest will answer any questions you may have.
The September Sunday Zen Talk will be held on Sunday, September 27.
The Sunday Zen Talk Session in October is scheduled for the 25th.

From November 20-22, 2026, foreigners and Japanese interested in Zen and its culture will gather for an intensive study event. What is Zen practice? Due to the February holiday season, the Friday evening zazen meeting and Saturday zazen meeting will be cancelled, but the Sunday zen talk meeting will be held on Sunday, February 22nd.
The March Sunday Zen talk meeting is scheduled for the 29th.
Every third Saturday of the month, we hold sesshin, an overnight intensive zazen practice from Wednesday evening to Sunday noon.
January sesshin will be held from Wednesday, January 13 to Sunday, January 18. From Wednesday to Thursday, after early morning zazen, we will return to our normal daily routines, such as going to work from the dojo and returning to the dojo in the evening for zazen and overnight stay, spending time intensively facing our selves.
Sunday, December 28th will be cancelled due to the end of the year. The next Zen talk will be held on Sunday, January 25.
