Announcement: "Zen Tea Gathering" (July)

Announcement: July "Zen Tea Gathering"

Many people would like to try matcha at a tea ceremony or similar event but hesitate because they don’t know the proper etiquette. For those of you who want to learn at least the basics of etiquette as a guest and how to enjoy the tea, we’ll explain the simple etiquette in the traditional tatami room at Kōho-in, located in Nakano Ward near Shinjuku. At Kobo-in, we offer tea ceremony instruction as part of our Zen practice. Through a short 10-minute zazen meditation and the etiquette of the tea ceremony, you will experience the importance of focusing on the present moment.

After that, please watch a demonstration of the Urasenke-style thin tea ceremony, and then enjoy the main sweets and thin tea.

If you are interested, please attend the zazen session. We plan to hold these sessions on the second Sunday of every month.

Date and Time: Sunday, July 12, 2026, 8:45 AM–11:00 AM

Fee: 1,500 yen (advance reservations required)

Place: Kohoin Temple, Rinzai sect of Buddhism
